A little help from my friends

It was cold yesterday morning when we put these two signs up, but it was nice to have some fellow Ron Paul supporters come and lend their help and moral support.

I just learned that those volks as the unfair and imbalanced network will not be including Ron Paul in their New Hampshire debate. I guess it makes sense; why would they want to hear a different message?

Frustrations

Sometimes the mind races when one considers all the problems and issues that face our nation and (for that matter) the world. It's easy to get all wrapped around the axle, stressed out and frustrated at the preponderance of boneheads in the world and the terrible messes that confront us.

It's at times like this that I hear this little voice inside reminding me that the solution(s) are not political. God is still sovereign and will work things out in His way and in His time. While this doesn't make the problems go away, it does help me to reclaim my peace, joy and composure.

Ban on 'Mom' and 'Dad' sparks call for exodus

A call is being issued to Christians who have been engaged in the culture wars in California's schools to abandon the system, after Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed into law a ban on "discriminatory bias" against homosexuals and others with alternative sexual lifestyles.

"We're calling upon every California parent to pull their child out of California's public school system," Randy Thomasson, president of Campaign for Children and Families, told WND.

"The so-called 'public schools' are no longer a safe emotional environment for children. Under the new law, schoolchildren as young as kindergarten will be sexually indoctrinated and introduced to homosexuality, bisexuality, and transsexuality, over the protests of parents, teachers and even school districts," he said.

Conservatism - Libertarianism

Rudy's "Weirdness Factor"

Rudy has been in the public eye for quite awhile. I think it fair therefore to take a look at the man who would be president. Not just the recent attempts to re-invent himself, but also some of his past.

My evaluation of him is simple. He is no conservative. Probably the reason people think he is a conservative is because he is an authoritarian hawk. He has taken a position favoring continued US military intervention in the middle east and other places. He would like to be the commander in chief, but he avoided military service during the Vietnam war. Hypocrisy is an unattractive trait.

His stated positions on abortion and homosexuality exclude him as a candidate for the religious right. It remains to be seen whether they will stay with their principles or embrace this fellow. If they decide to hold their collective nose and endorse him, I think it will be the kiss of death for their moral authority.

Need I say more? How about Gun control; you know he favors it. The more I know about him the less I like him.

Internet replacing TV

In ever increasing numbers Americas are spending more time on-line. In fact, I'm told that young people are spending more time on-line than they do watching television. More and more people are getting their appetites for news met on-line as well. We as a nation are spending more time on-line than ever before. In my opinion, people are wising up to the half truths, pap and propaganda that's being passed off as 'news' on the TV.

This may help to explain why Ron Paul is so wildly popular on college campuses and yet more or less ignored on the major media. Ron Paul is the most frequently searched for name according to the folks at Google. The major media would like Ron Paul to just go away.The business as usual big govt conservative wannabes would like him to go away too. He speaks with too much clarity and stands in stark contrast amongst the cast of characters that would like to be the next President.

Ron Paul is a man of principle who walks the walk. Check his record! He didn't have to conger what kind of a person people would vote for. He's the genuine article.

Republican debate

I watched in amazement last night, as one by one the Republicans displayed their ignorance of the constitution. They were asked whether they could take our country to war without the consent of the congress. It was painful to hear each of their tortured rationalizations when the answer is so simple. Mitt Romney was particularly embarrassing in his response because he would defer to the attorneys. Only Ron Paul had the correct answer.


No big surprise there...


I had to laugh as Chris Mathews was slapped down by Fred Thompson when Mathews said that Thompson should have stopped at "No" in his answer to the question of whether the Federal Government should intervene in a labor dispute. Thompson thanked Mathews for his opinion. For myself, I can't imagine why they had Mathews involved in the format at all.

I think I've reached the limit of my tolerance for Giuliani. Why he is a front runner is beyond me. If elected, he will raise the imperial presidency to new heights. Quite frankly I find him frightening.

Why should I attend church?

I was asked that question this morning; not in these words. Rather it was stated something like this: "I don't feel that I need to attend any organized church to be a believer." I'm told that 92% of the people in this community share this sentiment. I thought the answer (below) from the Blue Letter Bible website was thoughtful and adequate to answer the question.

But my friend was not persuaded. I've been pondering all morning just how I could explain the importance of Church. I'm not sure that I am up to the task since (for me) Church life is not something I need to make myself do. Rather, it is a part of who I am. I look forward to being with my christian brothers and sisters. In fact, Though I have many non-christian friends, I prefer the company of believers above all others. And this desire is not something unique to me. I think most people who have been redeemed by the grace and mercy of God and who love Jesus, want to be with the people of God and fellowship and worship Him and grow in the faith.

In my opinion, ones attitude toward Jesus and his church is a good test of how one is doing spiritually. If What Jesus has done for you doesn't move you to love and good works; if his sacrifice on your behalf means so little to you that you are not motivated to please him in everything you do, then I suggest you examine yourself and see whether you are really a believer. It may be that you just think you are. It would be sad indeed to find out when it's too late that you were mistaken.

In a recent article featured in the Asian Times online, Oswald Spengler writes :

'Ten thousand Chinese become Christians each day, according to a stunning report by the National Catholic Reporter’s veteran correspondent John Allen, and 200 million Chinese may comprise the world’s largest concentration of Christians by mid-century, and the largest missionary force in history.’

He continues:
‘I suspect that even the most enthusiastic accounts err on the downside, and that Christianity will have become a Sino-centric religion two generations from now. China may be for the 21st century what Europe was during the 8th-11th centuries, and America has been during the past 200 years: the natural ground for mass evangelization. Islam might defeat the western Europeans, simply by replacing their diminishing numbers with immigrants, but it will crumble beneath the challenge from the East.’

The Good Fight

All believers in the Lord Jesus Christ are in a war.
As I contemplate this idea many questions come to mind. Some I have answers to and others I just ponder.

• Who is the enemy? Our stuggle is not against flesh and blood but principalities, powers and spiritual wickedness in high places. We fight for the truth and the salvation of lost souls. We fight against doubt, unbelief and the lies of Satan. Other people are NOT the enemy!
• Am I an effective warrior?
  
• Am I in shape? Mentally, Physically, Spiritually?
• Am I disciplined? A soldier must endure hardship.
• Am I properly equipped? Put on the whole armor of God (and don't take it off)! The helmet of Salvation, the shield of Faith, the breast plate of Righteousness, the gospel of Peace, all held together with truthfulness/sincerity. Then finally the one offensive weapon; the sword of the Spirit (The word of God).
  
• Do I wear the uniform properly and well, or do I need more instruction?
  
• Am I skillful in the use of this equipment? Study therefore that you may present yourself approved unto God; a workman that doesn't need to be ashamed rightly dividing the word of truth.
• Am I at my post? Am I standing my watch or am I asleep on duty? Am I where I should be or absent without leave?
• Am I a faithful watch; sounding the alarm?
  
• Am I supporting the forces of God or am I giving aid and comfort the the enemy?

An acceptable fast

I was struck by this passage today. The prophet Isaiah is speaking for God about what is an acceptable and pleasing fast in God's eyes. I have always thought of fasting in terms of self denial and seeking a closer relationship with God. This passage gives me a whole new view of fasting; not one of denial but of service. I never did understand how my denying myself food would impress God. This passage tells me that what impresses God is selfless giving.
Isaiah 58.6 -9 (NKJV)

To loose the bonds of wickedness,
To undo the heavy burdens,
To let the oppressed go free,
And that you break every yoke?
7 Is it not to share your bread with the hungry,
